OC Salsa

To All OC Salsa Instructors
Effective Date: May 9 2025

As an OC Salsa instructor, you are a leader and representative of our dance community. Your actions directly impact the reputation of our studio and the experiences of our students. This Code of Conduct establishes the professional standards expected during all classes, events, and interactions.

General Expectations

  1. Professionalism:

    • Arrive on time, ready to teach, and maintain a positive, professional demeanor.

    • Wear appropriate, clean dance attire. Avoid clothing that is overly revealing or unprofessional.

    • Communicate clearly and respectfully with students and fellow staff.

  2. Respect & Inclusivity:

    • Treat every student with respect, regardless of age, gender, race, background, or dance level.

    • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment where all students feel valued and supported.

    • Never show favoritism or create uncomfortable dynamics in class.

Instructor–Student Boundaries (Critical)

Maintaining appropriate boundaries is non-negotiable. Violations will result in immediate disciplinary action, including dismissal.

  • Absolutely NO romantic, flirtatious, or sexual behavior with current students, during or around class times.

  • No asking students out, making suggestive remarks, or initiating physical touch beyond what is clearly necessary for dance instruction.

  • Do not engage in private messaging or texting with students for non-class-related matters, especially late at night.

  • Never use your position to gain personal favors, attention, or influence over students.

  • Respect personal space at all times. If a student seems uncomfortable, adjust your approach immediately.

Teaching Standards

  • Follow OC Salsa’s curriculum and class structure unless otherwise directed.

  • Provide clear instruction, demonstrate proper technique, and offer feedback respectfully.

  • Avoid confusion by not mixing personal choreography or content not approved by the studio.

  • Maintain class energy; do not step aside for phone use, socializing, or personal distractions.

Do’s

  • DO encourage students positively and help build their confidence.

  • DO use physical touch only when clearly needed for instruction — and always respectfully and with consent.

  • DO report any inappropriate student behavior or safety concern to management immediately.

  • DO maintain a fun, respectful class vibe without crossing professional lines.

Don’ts

  • DON’T flirt, joke sexually, or comment on students’ bodies or appearance.

  • DON’T initiate personal relationships with students while they are actively enrolled.

  • DON’T promote personal business or events without prior approval.

  • DON’T gossip about students, other instructors, or OC Salsa operations.

Accountability

Violations of this Code — especially concerning student-instructor boundaries — may result in a warning, suspension, or immediate termination, depending on the severity. We reserve the right to take swift action to protect the integrity of our school and the safety of our students.
