OC Salsa Student Code of Conduct
Creating a Safe, Respectful & Fun Dance Community
Effective Date: May 9 2025

At OC Salsa, we strive to foster a fun, safe, and inclusive dance environment for all students. Whether in class or at socials, the way we treat each other helps build a strong, respectful community. Please follow the guidelines below to help us maintain a positive experience for everyone.

Personal Hygiene & Presentation

To ensure comfort and respect during close partner dancing:

  • Wear deodorant and maintain good hygiene before attending class or socials.

  • Brush your teeth or use breath mints — fresh breath goes a long way in partner dancing.

  • Avoid strong perfumes or colognes as others may be sensitive or allergic.

  • Bring a towel or an extra shirt if you tend to sweat heavily.

Social Dancing Guidelines

One Dance Per Song (Customary)

  • It is customary to dance one full song per partner during socials. You may continue dancing if both agree.

  • Politely ask someone to dance — do not grab, pull, or pressure anyone onto the dance floor.

  • If someone declines to dance, respect their decision without question or offense.

Respect Personal Boundaries

  • No inappropriate touching, flirting, or lingering contact.

  • Keep physical connection within normal dance frame etiquette.

  • Do not push, force, or yank your partner into moves, especially ones that may cause injury or discomfort.

  • If you feel uncomfortable at any point, you are always free to stop the dance and notify staff if needed.

No Unsolicited Feedback or Teaching

  • Do not correct or “teach” your partner unless they ask for feedback.

  • Social dancing is for connection and enjoyment — not critique or evaluation.

  • Allow each dancer to learn and improve at their own pace.

Behavior Expectations

  • Treat every dancer with kindness and patience, regardless of skill level or background.

  • Support newcomers and help build confidence — never make others feel inferior because of their level.

  • Avoid gossip or creating cliques that exclude others.

  • Practice good floor awareness — navigate the dance floor respectfully to avoid collisions.

  • If drinking at a BYOB event, do so responsibly and in moderation.

Unacceptable Behavior Includes:

  • Making others uncomfortable through repeated invitations, comments, or physical contact.

  • Flirting, making suggestive remarks, or touching inappropriately.

  • Attempting dangerous or advanced moves (like dips or spins) without consent or skill.

  • Harassment or bullying in any form.

  • Showing up under the influence of drugs or noticeably intoxicated.

  • Forcing someone to dance or dragging them onto the dance floor.

Reporting & Accountability

We take the safety and well-being of our dance community seriously.
If you experience or witness behavior that goes against this Code of Conduct, please report it to any OC Salsa instructor or staff member.
Violations may result in a warning, suspension, or permanent removal from OC Salsa classes and events.

Let’s continue building a positive, respectful, and inspiring community — one dance at a time.
