1 I’ve never danced before. Will I be too far behind? +
Not at all. Most students begin with little or no dance experience. Classes are organized by level, starting with the basics and progressing gradually. You will be learning alongside other beginners.
2 I’m single. Do I need a partner? +
No partner is needed. We rotate partners during class, allowing everyone to learn faster, become more comfortable and meet new people.
3 Am I too old or too young to fit in? +
Dancing is for adults of different ages and backgrounds. Our students share the same excitement, fun and nervousness about learning. You will find people with whom you naturally connect.
4 What if I have two left feet or no rhythm? +
That is exactly why we are here. Our instructors break every step down in a simple, approachable way. With guided practice, anyone can improve.
You can also use our free syllabus videos and schedule personal support when you need additional feedback.
Your Class Experience
5 Do I have to rotate partners? +
Rotation is strongly encouraged because it improves your ability to lead, follow and adapt to different partners.
If you attend with a partner and prefer to remain together, tell the instructor. Rotation is optional for couples.
6 What should I wear to my first class? +
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move. Light dress shoes or dance shoes work well.
Avoid heavy rubber soles that stick to the floor. A small heel is optional for women. Dance shoes can be purchased later as you progress.
7 What if I feel shy or embarrassed? +
Feeling nervous is completely normal. Our classes are friendly, structured and supportive. The instructors help everyone participate, and most new students begin relaxing within the first few minutes.
8 Will I meet people, or is it only about dancing? +
Both. Dancing brings everyone together, but friendships—and sometimes relationships—naturally develop. Partner rotation makes it easy to meet people in a comfortable environment.
Progress & Confidence
9 How long until I feel comfortable dancing? +
With consistent attendance, most students begin feeling noticeably more confident within a few weeks. Within two to three months, you should feel much more comfortable dancing socially.
10 Do people attend alone, or mostly as couples? +
Many students attend alone to learn, exercise and socialize. You will not feel out of place arriving without a partner. Many current students started exactly the same way.
11 Do you offer time to practice? +
Yes. Students receive practice opportunities after classes, plus our Friday practice social from 10:00 PM–1:00 AM with Salsa, Bachata and Cumbia.
Visit the class calendar for the current weekly schedule.
12 What is the OC Salsa syllabus? +
The syllabus is the organized system of steps, techniques and drills used by OC Salsa instructors. Each level has clearly defined material, helping students understand what to learn next.
All Salsa, Bachata and Cumbia syllabus videos are available online. Students can also book a 10-minute personal support or evaluation session .
