No you don’t, 98% of our students come without one. For group classes, we partner them up there and we rotate everyone so you get to dance and meet many people. For private lessons you will be dancing and learning directly from the instructor, or dancing with your partner if you bring one.

No, you don’t. Many people come from work, or the gym. Just bring comfortable clothing that you feel like you can move and feel relaxed. No need to dress yourself up. For shoes we suggest fitted shoes (no sandals) and shoes that you can slide on wood floor and be comfortable dancing on. We recommend to invest in Salsa Dance Shoes as you get more into dancing and our classes. They are designed for dancing and to be comfy and on your feet for long periods of time.

The syllabus is a series of specific dance steps and techniques that are assigned to each class:. Beginner Level, Beginner 2 Level & Intermediate Level.

All Beginner students start in Beginner Level 1 and they learn from the syllabus content. When ready students can evaluate and move up to the next level.

Beginner level 1 (Salsa & Bachata) has 6 steps and 10 techniques, Beginner Level 2 has 6 steps and 10 techniques & Intermediate Level has about 10 steps and 10 techniques. Steps is what you dance (example, “followers right turn”), Techniques is how you dace (example “how to move your hips”)

We create these opportunities so students can practice among friends and promote camaraderie and bonding among our students. Learning how to dance , like learning a new skill, takes time and can be challenging. We make the transition from classes to dancing at social settings the easiest possible. We encourage students to attend our events regularly so the can practice more and make friends in the process. And when you come to on of our events for the first time you don’t have to come to dance. Just come in and enjoy the atmosphere; see how things are. This is the first step. After that the second time you know what to expect and maybe you dance one song. Third time a little more and so on. You do it a little bit at a time. Many students have the belief that you will take enough classes and then at one point be ready to go dancing. The reality is that you have to build confidence to dance what you learn at classes a little bit a time. So we suggest to dive in! Come to our events, even if you took only one class or none. We know you will have a blast.

  • How long does it take to learn how to dance?

Although this varies from student to student, the average takes about a month to grasp the beginning steeps, and 2 to 3 months to feel comfortable with the basics steps dancing in a social setting. But this is a process. From the very first class the students take, we encourage students to practice. We also make this easy for students by learning from the OC Salsa syllabus program, where students can learn the names of the moves, have a visual of what they will learn, look forward to advance on skills, measure their progress and look up to advancing to the next level.

  • What is the OC Salsa Syllabus?

The syllabus is a series of specific dance steps and techniques that are assigned to each class. Beginner Class Syllabus covers steps 1-10, Intermediate Class Syllabus covers steps 11-20 and Advance Syllabus Class covers steps 21-30.

All Beginner students start in Beginner Level 1 and they learn from the syllabus until the reach Beginner Level 3. That means that all 10 steps and techniques are divided within 3 Beginner levels. This way students can evaluate and move up to the next level. Beginner 1, 2 and 3 students all take the same class. Once ready students evaluate to move to Intermediate Class where we teach Level 4, 5 and 6 combined. Once again, students move up levels within the same class to measure progress and learn effectively.

From Intermediate Level 6, students evaluate to the Advance Classes where level 7, 8 and 9 students learn together. Advance Level 9 is the higher level offered by OC Salsa.
